A young woman of Syracuse killed in the Diocletian persecution, who gave away her wealth to the poor after her mother was cured at Agatha's tomb.

Catholic Encyclopedia (Herbermann, 1907-1913), 'St. Lucy' — gives her death as 303 in the Diocletian persecution and opens 'According to the traditional story', which is why historicity is recorded as traditional rather than documented: the veneration is ancient and continuous, the narrative is later.
